Puck says,The king doth keep his revels here tonight,Take heedd the Queen com not within

Puck says,

The king doth keep his revels here tonight,

Take heedd the Queen com not within his sight,

For Oberon is passing fell and wrath,

Because that she as her attendant hath

A lovely boy stol'n from Indian king;

She never had so sweet a changeling,

And jealous Oberon would have the child

Knight of his train, to trace the forests wild.

The meaning of the above words is that()。

A.The king is going to find fun in the forest, but he does not feel happy with the queen for she is such a miserly person that she wants to keep the boy stolen from Indian for her own only because she likes the boy very much, whereas the king is going to make the boy as his adopted son.

B.The king is going to find fun in the forest together with the queen. Though the king is jealous that she has an indian boy, he hopes she can hand him over to him by making her happy.

C.The king is going to find fun in the forest tonight, and please take care not to let the queen be here. The reason is that the king is very angry with her. The queen has an Indian boy stolen from an Indian king, and she likes him very much and does not like to hand over the boy to the fairy king who intends to make the child one of his knights together with him to wander in the wild forest.

D.The king is going to find fun in the forest tonight, and please make sure the queen does not come, because the king is very angry with her. She has a lovely boy coming from Indian who the king also likes and decides to make him one of his knights to be together with him in the forest.

Passage Three An old Indian story says that the game of chess (国际象棋) was invented

Passage Three

An old Indian story says that the game of chess (国际象棋) was invented by Sissa Ben, Prime Minister of King Shirham. As soon as the invention was finished he gave it to the king, who was glad and asked him what he would like to have in return. To the king's surprise, what Sissa wanted seemed very little. "Your Majesty, "said the minister, kneeling before the king. "I want nothing but some wheat. Please put a grain of wheat on the first square of the chessboard (棋盘), two on the second, four on the third, eight on the fourth.., and so on, doubling the number for each following square. Give me enough grains to cover the 64 squares of the chessboard."

"You don't ask for much, my honest servant. You might have asked for gold or money," said the king and then ordered a bag of wheat brought to the palace.

But when the counting began, with one grain for the first square, two for the second, four for the third, and so on, the bag was emptied before the 20th square. More bags were brought, but the number of grain needed for the following squares increased so rapidly that the king was not able to keep his promise even with all the crops in the whole India! In fact, he would have needed 8 466 744 073 709 511 615 grains, which would be as much as that they would produce in about 2000 years!

Now tile king found himself deep in debt to his minister. He had either to face the terrible trouble all his life or to cut off Sissa's head, the litter of which, it is said was what he finally chose.

41. This story tells us ______.

A. how cruel the king was

B. how clever the minister was

C. Sissa was a famous mathematician

D. how the game of chess came into being

Some Unusual Celebrations

Some holidays are well-known all around the world. Among them are New Year&39;s Eve celebrations.
Also common are days in honor of love and friendship, like Valentine&39;s Day. Each country has its own special holidays, too, often to mark important events in its history. Schools, banks, and government offices all close on days like these. __________ (46) A few of them are really very strange.
Of course, they are not strange to the people who celebrate them. Perhaps that is because the celebrations have long traditions. Consider April Fool&39;s Day, for example. No one knows when or why it began. Today it is celebrated in many countries- France, England, and Australia, among others. On this day, people play practical jokes. __________ (47) The ones who laugh are the ones playing the jokes. The people they fool often get angry. Does celebrating this day make sense to you?
Day in Poland seems strange, too. On this day, it is traditional for boys to pour water over the heads of girls. Here is the strangest part: They do it to girls they like. Other unusual celebrations take place in a single city or town. A holiday called La Tomatina is celebrated in Bunol, Spain. Every year, in late August, big trucks carry more than 200,000 pounds of tomatoes into this little town. __________ (48)
For two hours, people in the streets throw tomatoes at each other. Everyone ends up red from head to toe.
August 10 marks the start of the Puck Fair, an Irish festival with a very unusual tradition. People from the town of Killorglin go up into the mountains and catch a wild goat. __________ (49)
There are also some celebrations that are really strange. In the United States, sometimes one person gets an idea for a new holiday and tries to get others to accept it. Whose idea was Public Sleeping Day? That one is on February 28. It may seem strange, but it sounds like more fun than the one on February 9. __________ (50)
Do you like the idea of inventing a new holiday? If you do, then you will want to mark March 26 on your calendar. That is Make Up Your Own Holiday Day.

Culture Clash? It was the World Cup Final of France '98 that sparked the introduction

Culture Clash?

It was the World Cup Final of France '98 that sparked the introduction of television into Bhutan. The 3-0 victory of the home side over Brazil was watched by thousands on a big screen in Bhutan's National Square,__16__Six months after that, global TV broadcasting was allowed in. It was this second development that really made people wake up to life in the twentieth century and caused profound change, according to TV analyst Shockshan Peck. 'Young people are now much more in tune with globalisation and what is happening around the world,'she says. 'The risk is that the more we learn about the world, the more we lose of our own culture.'

Bhutan has no film industry to speak of, and after a diet of cultural and educational programmes from BBS, some Bhutanese began to look for something a little more spicy.__17__ The TV avalanche began, and along with it came a change in people's lifestyles. Residents of the capital, Thimphu, say they are now glued to the TV for several hours a day, and often stay up late to watch the non-stop stream of programmes. Long-running Indian soap operas beamed from across the border ire hot favourites. One viewer, Choki Wangmo, says that her children go out and play less, and that television dominates family discussions these days. Her son, Ugyen, admits that his studies are affected because he cannot concentrate in the classroom. 'I keep thinking about what will happen next in the story,'he says.

Also popular are cartoons, football matches, and the wrestling series from the US.__18__ Kinley Dorji, editor of Bhutan's only newspaper, says that when TV first came in, he received several pained letters from students, saying they were shocked. 'Bhutanese kids who have grown up in this quiet country, this very rustic society, suddenly saw these big men beating each other upon television. They couldn't understand it.'__19__ 'We received a report from a school where a student broke his arm after being thrown to the ground by his friend, who was emulating the wrestlers.'

Kinley Dorji says that television is 'splitting' Bhutanese society. He explains that the thinking in the country is that it will never be a military or economic power, so its strength must be its unique society. He believes that TV represents a direct threat to this. __20__ 'If you look at the items being stolen, like TV sets, tape recorders and clothes, it' s directly related to what they're seeing,' he adds.

A. The latter is at the centre of a debate about the influence of television on Bhutan' s young people.

B. He also links television to a rise in crime over the period that it has been broadcasting.

C. It was such a success that a year later, on the twenty-fifth anniversary of his coronation, the king decided to begin the Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS).

D. However, it was not long before the children started doing it themselves.

F. So they turned to multi-channel TV, through satellite in the countryside and cable in the towns.
