听力原文: It was an Italian inventor who created the first wireless device for sending out
radio signals in 1895. But not until the American inventor Lee De Forest built the first amplifying vacuum tube in 1906 did we get the first radio as we know it. And the first actual radio broadcast was made on Christmas Eve of 1906. That's when someone working from an experimental station in Brand Rock, Massachusetts, arranged the program of two short musical selections, a poem and a brief holiday greeting. The broadcast was heard by wireless operators on ships with a radio through several hundred miles. The following year, De Forest began regular radio broadcasts in New York. These programs were similar to much of what we hear on the radio today in that De Forest played only music. But because there were still no home radio receivers, De Forest's audience consisted of only wireless operators on ships in New York harbor. There is no doubt that radio broadcasting was quite a novelty in those days. But it took a while to catch on commercially. Why? For the simple fact that only a few people, in fact, only those who tinkered with wireless telegraphs as a hobby, owned receivers. It wasn't until the 1920's that someone envisioned mass appeal for radio. This was radio pioneer, David Sarnoff, who predicted that one day there would be a radio receiver in every home.

When was the first actual radio broadcast made?

A.On Christmas Eve of 1906.

B.On Christmas Eve of 1960.

C.On Christmas Eve of 1895.

D.On Christmas Eve of 1859.

"Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way..." goes the popular Christmas tune. With
the song in my head, I felt a bit sorry for myself. Instead of rushing back and forth across a freezing school campus, I could have had a cozy Christmas dinner at home or enjoyed the fabulous fireworks lighting up campus at night. But this Christmas would not be celebrated as usual.

One month ago, all six girls in my dormitory (including me) had made detailed plans for a more-exciting-than-ever Christmas holiday. But one day we received an unusual mission: we were asked to organize a party that would be a fund-raiser for mentally disabled children from the hospital. The children would perform. on stage while volunteers offered food to the spectators (观众) and collect some money for the organization.

Naturally, we were supposed to support the idea wholeheartedly, and we did. But wait—the date of the show was set right on Christmas Eve! This meant that all our original Christmas plans would have to best aside.

However, we took the plunge into preparations for the party. We spared no effort in organizing, designing, propagandizing, and so on. We went through thick and thin and finally made it, though with a bit of reluctance.

Finally, Christmas Eve arrived. As I dragged myself into the auditorium after another day of hard work, I detected the notes of a beautiful Christmas song that immediately filled me with happiness. I looked to find the source of the song—it was a group of children singing on stage. Though disabled, they appeared extraordinarily earnest and sincere in front of the audience. Everyone attending was deeply moved by the sight. People wanted to donate some money or show their support.

At that point, I found all that I had done in the one-month time was worthwhile. And all the volunteers who had been participating in this Christmas party shared the same feeling: the true meaning of Christmas was giving and receiving love from one another.

The author thought her Christmas was unusual because ______.

A.she had a cozy Christmas dinner and fabulous fireworks

B.she had a more-exciting-than-ever Christmas holiday

C.she saw performances given by disabled children

D.she devoted herself to helping the disabled children
