第9题

I was born into a middle-class family in Beijing.Being the eldest of three children, I
acquired the ability to “lead” my younger brother and sister. And so, ever since childhood, I have been something of a leader, taking a guiding position in most groups and activities I‘ve been involved in.This genuine gift is one of the most important reason for why I am qualified to pursue a career in management.

I have always had a very pleasant personality. Most people perceive me to be easy-going.I like to express my opinions when I am certain and have never been afraid to do so since I entered college. When I was a kid, I was afraid to go on stage to speak in the public. After persistent self-training, the stage-fright(怯场), finally went away.I was chosen as the delegate of Fudan University to participate in the National Intercollegiate debate contest and won the championship.Another strong point of mine is that I am constantly pushing myself to be the best.I have a broad common sense and even broader interests.I like to read and learn new things, and I rarely get satisfied easily. The area that I need to improve the most is in thinking more freely.

I am also satisfied with myself in my performance during my four years of college.Under the enormous pressure of being an Engineering student, I was able to maintain decent grades while keeping myself busy with a lot of extra-curricular activities. As mentioned in the application form, I was chosen among several hundred applicants to be one of the delegation members of a good will mission to visit the United States in 1988.I worked for the China Youth Travel Agency during the summers to guide tourists from various countries to China’s tourist attractions.Through these, I acquired experience in working with others and, more importantly, became more mature.

I am also satisfied with my adaptability to new environments.I was enrolled in the University of Michigan in September 1991.The sudden change of living, studying and even communicating in a very different place did not give me too much trouble.I finished my Master’s degree in one year with satisfactory grades.

I believe I am intelligent and learn quickly.I started working for IBM in March 1993. Initially, I was assigned to work on a couple of projects that I was not extremely familiar with. This, coupled with the fact that I lacked formal work experience, caused me to have a hard time in the beginning. However, I displayed my sharpness in learning the basics, and brought to the work my usual dedication.By the time I had been there for six weeks, I was ready for even greater challenges. In December 1993, I was promoted to be the Principal Investigator of the project that I am currently working on.

1.What first contributed to the author’s leadership ability according to the passage?()

A.He is the eldest child in his family.

B.He won the championship in the National Intercollegiate debate contest.

C.He worked as a tourist guide for the China Youth Travel Agency.

D.He has been a leader in most activities he took part in.

2.What’s the author’s final degree?()

A.Bachelor’s degree

B.Master’s degree

C.Doctoral degree

D.Postdoctoral degree

3.Which of the following didn’t happen during the author’s four years of college?()

A.He took part in the National Intercollegiate debate contest.

B.He studied in University of Michigan.

C.He worked for the China Youth Travel Agency

D.He went to visit the United States.

4.As mentioned in the passage, the author’s weakness is that _______.

A.He is afraid to speak in public.

B.He is not familiar with some project in IBM.

C.His thought is not free enough.

D.He rarely gets satisfied easily.

5.Which of the following statements is NOT true about the author’s work in IBM?()

A.He is the Principal Investigator now.

B.He became confident after six weeks’ work there.

C.This is his first formal job.

D.He adapted himself to the working style. in no time.

第10题

Jenny and her sister, Carol did a personality test and neither is very happy with the
results."Hey, I got 62 points. The results say that I am an aggressive person. I don't think I am, do you, Carol? And it says here that I am boastful. I am not boastful," says Jenny."Well, perhaps a little, Jenny. Do you remember the time when you got top marks in that English test and you kept going around telling everybody? And then you asked Paul what he got when you know how bad he is at English. When he wouldn't tell you, you ripped his test paper out of his hand" replied Carol. "But look at my results. I only got 19 points. Does that really mean that I am shy and indecisive?""Yes," said her sister. "When did you last make a decision about anything?""I decided to get up this morning," said Carol."Super! And then you asked me what you should wear and if it was a good idea to go bowling this afternoon with your friends!""Yes, well. I sometimes do have problems reaching a decision but only on unimportant things."“Really?” asked her sister. "Is that why you ask Mum what you should study and where? Is that something unimportant? You always want something else to make the decisions and you’re afraid of getting too involved with anyone or anything."“Maybe l am just afraid of making the wrong decision,” 'said Carol defensively.Choose the correct answer.

What do the results say about Jenny ().

A、She is not a happy person

B、She is an aggressive and boastful person

C、She got top marks in the English test

D、She got 62 points
